Slow Flow Yoga
Damaris' teaching style is continually evolving. Currently, she teaches a slow flow (vinyasa) yoga class with added elements of somatic (of the body) movement to help release tension in the body and free up the breath. Her classes contain moments of challenge, moments of calm but most of all they are an invitation to become more embodied, more present and to move in a way that feels right for each body. She doesn't impose strict alignment cues but instead encourages her students to notice sensations, thoughts, habitual patterns as well as the breath so that they can move from a place of greater awareness. There is opportunity to play with movement and to work at a pace that suits each person moment by moment.
Testimonials
"Damaris is hugely warm and encouraging. She brings a wealth of knowledge to her sessions which leave me feeling both fully relaxed and really stretched; a joy to find stillness within and to rediscover my body’s ability to move" ~ Helen
"Damaris' class is perfectly paced, always well thought through and varied, and just the right mix of challenging and relaxing" ~ Leila
"Despite trying yoga several times previously, I never really understood what it was all about until I took Damaris' beginners yoga course. This was many years ago now and I've been hooked ever since. Damaris is a thoughtful, sensitive and patient teacher. Her classes are relaxed and she has a real skill in explaining things in a simple and easily digestible way. Her yoga knowledge shines through and she offers variations of poses to suit individual bodies. She also uses creative imagery to help you understand a pose and the correct alignment. I also remember the poses afterwards! Damaris' classes have helped me to build up my flexibility (and I'm not naturally bendy), to reduce stress and also given me a sense of freedom in my body for everyday tasks (mainly sitting at a desk for long hours!). If you'd like an excellent foundation in yoga or even if you have an established practice, I'd highly recommend Damaris' classes". ~ Jo
"This is my first experience of yoga and I am absolutely loving it. Damaris seems very professional and has always planned a good practice each week. She varies the sessions very well and concentrates on different parts of the body each time. Currently classes are on-line but she keeps an eye on what we are doing and can point out where we have not quite got it right. She does this in a very supportive way and is always very positive. I really have learnt a lot over the last few months and I feel a lot healthier." ~ James
“I’ve been attending Damaris’ classes for several years now. I enjoy the pace and variety within classes focussing on different parts of the body - especially areas which are tense from modern living. The classes can be adapted easily to accommodate injury. I always feel calm and more flexible after every class.’ ~ Gemma
"Damaris’ classes strike the balance between working the muscles (quite hard sometimes!) and getting to breathe and relax. I think she puts a lot of thought into pitching things at the right level according to the group. She has a very kind manner and also brings humour to the lessons. All in all, a brilliant way to round off a Monday night." ~ Alison
